Bowled over by readers' support

Following an article in the Nottingham Evening Post, a cricket club targeted by vandals has been flooded with offers of help.

In the latest attack at Lambley Cricket Club, a fire destroyed sports kit, the scoreboard and practice nets, and badly damaged part of the pavillion.

The attacks are a particular blow to committee member Chris Morley, who despite having terminal cancer, has managed to raise hundreds of pounds for the club through sponsored events such as climbing Ben Nevis and Snowden.

Some of the help offered after the club’s plight was featured in the newspaper includes the supply of two security lights, £400 cash and some paint.

The club has also been supplied with the services of a security guard for a month and replacement kit from another local cricket club.

Mr Morley said: “We are so pleased about all this help. It will all be extremely useful.

“I couldn’t believe it when it happened, after the work that’s been put in. It was just the latest act of mindless vandalism we have had at the club.

“We are still about £800 down after the attack, from things like the scoreboard and nets which were not insured. But this help will certainly make a difference.”
