Boost for children's appeal

A newspaper appeal to help needy children in the north east has been given a boost by a new partnership forged with a power company.

Northern Electric & Gas has pledged £25,000 for Switch on to Sunshine a new venture for the Newcastle Evening Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund.

Every time an existing electricity customer signs up for gas, the company will donate £5 to the Switch On To Sunshine fund.

And for every customer who has changed supplier and returns to Northern Electric for the dual-fuel option the fund will be boosted by £10.

The proceeds will be donated to good causes through the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund which has donated thousands of pounds to disadvantaged children across the North East.

Julian Kenyon, public affairs manager at Northern Electric & Gas, said: “This campaign will make a lasting difference to some of the less fortunate youngsters in the region and we’re really hoping Chronicle readers get behind it and make that all important switch to both support the Sunshine Fund and save money with dual-fuel from Northern Electric & Gas.”

Chronicle editor Alison Hastings told her readers: “The £25,000 donation is a magnificent gesture and an excellent way to kick-start the Switch On To Sunshine Fund.”
