Birthday celebrations boost local charities

Charities in Bournemouth are to receive more than £50,000 thanks to a local paper’s centenary celebrations.

The Bournemouth Daily Echo launched the Pot of Gold Appeal a year ago to mark its 100th birthday.

The launch took place at Bournemouth Air Museum and a helicopter flew in the first collection bucket to kickstart the campaign in style.

Since then, money has been raised for charities such as Pramacare which provides home help for the needy and Hyped, a homeless charity.

Daily Echo editor Neal Butterworth said: “We are delighted that we have been able to support such worthy local causes and we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the effort.”
