Birmingham News prepares for launch

Staff from the Birmingham Metro News are hard at work as they prepare for the newspaper to be relaunched as the Birmingham News on Thursday.

Together with a new name – changed partly to differentiate it from the free daily paper Metro – the revamped free weekly will see a new design making the newspaper more accessible to readers.

Both advertising and editorial will be clearly signposted throughout the paper with a content banner on the front page.

However editor Bill McCarthy says most of the paper’s content will remain the same, continuing to focus on the issues concerning the Birmingham area and the people of Birmingham.

Looking forward to the relaunch, he said: “It’s a great opportunity. Hopefully readers will appreciate an even better service than they were getting before.”

The Trinity Mirror paper will be delivered to many homes which currently don’t receive a free newspaper, including Birmingham’s diverse ethnic communities.

Dawn Sweeney, Birmingham Post and Mail advertisement director, said: “It is important that all the products in our portfolio are of the highest quality and reflect the changing needs of our customers and their marketplaces.

“We believe the new Birmingham News meet this challenge in a very unique and exciting way.”
