Beehive buzzing as hivehits 200

The Beehive Online Community Network at thisisnorthscotland, which gives non-profit-making groups the chance to create and publish websites free of charge, has reached a landmark of 200 sites.

Thumpers Pet Rabbit Rescue became the 200th site to join the network, part of the Aberdeen Evening Express and Press and Journals’ website.

An extensive range of groups from choirs and police forces, to national charities, have sites on the network which was launched in February last year.

Dee Penfold, of Thumpers, said: “We really need to reach as many people as possible as our main aim is to re-home pet rabbits who have fallen on hard times.

“Our new website will enable us to put pictures of bunnies looking for homes on the Internet and also provide some useful information for the public on how to look after their pet rabbits.”

Community website publishing co-ordinator Amy Raeburn is pleased with the uptake of sites on the network.

She said: “I think groups are starting to become more aware of the benefits of putting their message across on the Internet. The Internet isn’t scary – it’s there as a tool.”
