Battle of the sexes as news teams face each other on the court

A friendly netball match between staff at Archant Norfolk saw the boys beat the girls at their own game in a battle of the sexes.

An all-girl team, which has been practising since the start of this year, challenged the men at Norwich’s Prospect House to a friendly, but were beaten 21-18.

Staff from various departments at the Norwich Evening News and Eastern Daily Press, including editorial, took part in the match at Carrow Park in Norwich.

The “girls” squad included Kate Atkinson, Kim Briscoe, Sarah Cassells, Jo Digby, Lisa Donovan, Sophie Harrison, Jenny Hill, Cara MacDonald and Charlie Papworth.

Meanwhile the “boys” team was led by Archant Norfolk managing director Barry Dennis, who was joined by Gareth Nicholls, Nathan Parker, Dave Powles, Jon Redhead and Lee Todd.

  • Sophie Harrison, Norwich Evening News marketing co-ordinator, said: “The boys may try to convince you otherwise but it was a closely fought game.

“We were leading until the last quarter, by which time the boys had figured out they could just lob the ball high in the air and we wouldn’t be able to reach it.

“We obviously played with much more style and elegance, and looked better in shorts. I think everyone really enjoyed it, even though it poured with rain most of the time and did get quite competitive!” Do you have a story about the regional press?
