Asylum awards presented by London Mayor Ken Livingstone

Women in Journalism is hosting a seminar next month about gaining confidence. The networking and campaigning organisation will hear from lifestyle coach Edwina Buichi.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone presented prizes at the ‘Reporting Asylum – Local Press Awards’ which recognise excellence in coverage of refugee and asylum seeker issues.
Award winners were East End Life, which won both Visual Material and News Report of the Year, The Londonpaper, which took the Best Comment category, while Eastern Eye won Best Faith and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Newspaper.


Birmingham Press Club will be attending a special launch of new James Bond-themed stamps. The club is sponsored by the Royal Mail which is hosting the event at Birmingham’s Hotel du Vin on January 10.


The Society of Editors hosted a lunch with Culture Secretary James Purnell MP. The meeting discussed current concerns over press freedom.


The National Union of Journalists is running a feature writing roadshow next month. It will be Belfast on January 10 and 11, Dublin on January 15 and 16 and Manchester on January 23 and 24.
