An Aberdeen Press and Journal article about a famous 19th-century Lonmay couple has led to a huge reunion for their descendents.

More then 120 members of the Murray family travelled across the globe to meet up after the story of land-owners George and Ann Murray was featured in the newspaper.

Family members had been working on building up a family tree before the Press and Journal featured a profile of the couple.

That led to dozens of other descendents getting in contact – and a reunion was arranged.

Don Murray, of Cullen, said: “The Press and Journal played a big part in getting everyone together. Relatives who we might have had difficulty contacting found out about it through publicity.”
