Arson attack results in reader appeal

The Sheffield Star has launched an appeal to get a disabled children’s charity back on its feet after a cruel arson attack.

Firebugs forced the closure of Paces, which runs a special school for youngsters with cerebral palsy.

Some £20,000 of damage was caused when the boiler house was attacked.

One of the main results of the blaze was that the building was left without electricity.

But with a little help from Star readers, the organisation is hoping to open as close to the start of the new school term as possible.

The charity is looking for cash help as well as offers of equipment and expertise.

And it has put up a reward for information to find the culprits.

Paces has been hailed a Sheffield success story, created in 1992 by the parents of children who suffer with cerebral palsy.

They set up a conductive education centre four years later and then took over a former comprehensive school and have ambitious plans to create their own centre along the lines of the famous Peto institute in Hungary, which has revolutionised the way their children become more mobile and live a fuller life.
