Argus scores section 39 victory – and exclusive pics

The South Wales Argus scored a scoop when it successfully appealed against a section 39 order on a 15-year-old boy – and then got exclusive pictures of him.

Reporter Gareth Llewellyn successfully appealed against the court order on the boy who had terrorised his neighbourhood and been made the subject of an Anti Social Behaviour Order.

And then the newspaper talked the boy’s father into letting a photographer into their home to take his picture (below).

During the photo session the boy’s father was also interviewed by Gareth.

Argus editor Gerry Keighley said: “It’s hard enough sometimes to persuade courts that ASBOs can have little effect if you don’t identify the troublemakers.

“But Gareth showed real initiative in getting the father to let us in for photos and an interview.

“I stipulated that we would run the interview only on condition that it wasn’t simply a whitewash attempt by the father, which it wasn’t.

“I would bet that this particular ASBO will now be more effective than those in which courts have imposed anonymity.”
