Argus readers say "no"

Readers of the South Wales Argus have given a resounding “no” to the euro after the paper ran a week-long phone and website poll.

Following a recent Welsh opinion poll that found a slim majority in favour of the euro, the Argus asked its readers to call in and give their views.

However its poll painted a slightly different picture. Out of 442 votes cast by readers, just 135 said they wanted to join, while 307 said they were against Britain joining the single currency.

Of those that cast their vote by phone, 83 per cent were against following countries such as France, Germany and Spain into the euro.

Among those you voted using the Argus’ website, thisisgwent, a slim majority said they were happy to see Britain join the single currency, with 88 readers for and 79 against.
