Argus readers help remember drowned boy

Readers of The Argus have helped pay for a memorial playground for a 10-year-old boy who drowned a year ago.

More than £10,000 has been raised by donations from local businesses and readers, including one so touched by the boy’s death, it sent a cheque for £1,000.

The Argus appealed for donations to help build a memorial playground and garden at the school where he was a pupil.

The money raised will be matched pound-for-pound from a Government fund, designed to help with school capital projects.

Work on the playground is about to start and it should be ready next spring.

Timmy, who was autistic, died off Brighton Beach while on an outing with his outreach worker. She also drowned and it is thought she was trying to save him.
