Another Concorde 'special'

The Leicester Mercury had the presses rolling at 5.07pm with a front page lead and page two backgrounder on the day of the Concorde disaster.

Journalists drew on information from a Leicester University aviation expert, on hand within 30 minutes of the notification of the Concorde crash.

They also used the Internet to download information about Concorde.

The print run was 3,200, with the presses finishing by 5.25pm.

Assistant editor Jeremy Clifford said: “The company is still awaiting sales details, but early indications are that it sold very well. It was a great effort by all involved.”
