25 years for Midweek

Twenty-five years of the Midweek newspaper, sister to the Bucks Free Press, ware being celebrated.

The anniversary marks a quarter of a century from when the paper was re-launched in a tabloid format in 1978.

The paper is the first local paper to be published each week in the High Wycombe and surrounding area, and has recently enjoyed makeover with new masthead and layout design.

The “quality weekly” complements the group’s flagship title, the Bucks Free Press.

Judy Warschauer, who has been working at the Free Press for 20 years, said: “Midweek deserves to be 25 years old – it has always been a great paper. I have always thought sport in particular is good and brings people up to date with events at the weekend. I hope Midweek continues to provide the news for people every Tuesday for another 25 years.”

Regular features include Backchat, What’s On, Schools Page, Those Were the Days, Features and Pet of the Week. Readers can also see sections such as recruitment and property.

One of the very first regular features that appeared in the newspaper was Miss Midweek where beauties from around the area would enter into competition to see who would feature in the paper.

Some of the recent campaigns have been to improve the congestion around Wycombe Hospital’s car park and to push for improvements in safety on Amersham Hill.

When it was relaunched the Midweek had its own dedicated team of reporters. Now it is written by Bucks Free Press staff from its HQ in High Wycombe.
