Writers meet their Waterloo!

Dancing queens? Well, not all of them!

Meet the new Abba – the tuneful movers and groovers from the Eastern Daily Press features team.

Benny, Bjorn, Anni-Frid and Agnetha sported a slightly scary look but were of course EDP scribes Emma Outten, David Macaulay, Rachel Banham and Mark Nicholls.

When it came to reviewing an Abba revival evening in Norwich the EDP feature writers went a little beyond the call of duty.

Having sent out an SOS for some rather dodgy outfits, they were transformed for the evening into the new Abba.

Glittering in white and gold costumes, wigs and over-sized medallions, they became Abba for the Sing-a-long-a-Abba evening at the city’s Theatre Royal.

Benny, alias Mark Nicholls, EDP deputy features editor, said: “It all came out of a discussion over how we should cover an Abba night at the local theatre. There was a feeling that this was a chance to do something different.

“But with two men and two women on the features desk, there was only one way to go. We would be Abba for a night. We hired some gear and off we went.

“We did get a few funny looks walking from the office to the theatre. But it turned out to be great fun and we did get a double page spread out of it too.”

With a full review from Emma and first person pieces on what it was like to be a member of Abba for the evening from all four of the writers, the piece made a double page centre spread in the EDP.

No one could accuse them of doing their jobs just for the Money, Money, Money.
