Belfast News Letter writer Ruth Loney has received a surprise award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to equestrian sport.
The journalist was presented with the Coup de Coeur trophy while she was reporting on the Bordeaux world cup show in France.
As she waited for an interviewee Ruth was unexpectedly called into the main arena, where she received a specially commissioned glass sculpture of a horse.
The award is presented each year to someone who works behind the secenes at the event, and also recognises Ruth’s contribution to international show jumping.
She has worked for the News Letter since 1989, writing a half-page of equestrian news which has now grown into a weekly supplement.
