Evening Post named best regional

The Reading Evening Post has been named Regional Newspaper of the Year at the 2003 Newspaper Awards.

The event recognises production and editorial excellence, and saw many regional publishers and titles competing against their national rivals.

The Evening Post’s accolade was one of 15 handed out during a ceremony at the at The Dorchester on London’s Park Lane, and in winning the title it beat tough competition from the Eastern Daily Press, Jersey Evening Post, Manchester Evening News, Shropshire Star and Press & Journal in Aberdeen.

In the Sunday newspaper category the Sunday Sentinel was highly commended in a category dominated by national titles, including The Mail on Sunday, which took the top award.

However, the Sunday Sentinel went one better in the category for Most Outstanding Use of Colour, scooping the honour ahead of The Irish Times and The Herald.

And in the Weekly newspaper category the Kent Messenger and Woking News & Mail were both highly commended, beaten by the Jewish Chronicle.
