Diversity reflected in awards

Entries are being sought for the prestigious Race in the Media Awards, which highlight coverage of race, diversity and multiculturalism in the UK media.

RIMA is open to all journalists and broadcasters who will have had material published or transmitted in the period 1 January to 31 December 2001.

The only requirement is that the material addresses race relations issues in the UK.

The awards attract entries from across the media industry, from major broadcasters and national newspapers to small independent television and radio companies, and specialist magazines.

They also recognise the work of the advertising industry and the skills of those working on-line.

The Commission for Racial Equality established the Race in the Media Awards in 1992 to encourage informed coverage of race relations across all media in the United Kingdom.

The closing date is Friday 7 December 2001 and the winners will be announced in April 2002.

Entry forms for the 19 categories are available from the RIMA office on 01494 671332 or can be downloaded from the website at www.cre.gov.uk/media/rima.html.
