One of the top awards in Scottish journalism has been shared for the first time.
Allan Caldwell, of the Glasgow Evening Times, and Robert McNeil, of The Scotsman, were today jointly named Daily News Journalist off the Year in the BT Scotland Press and Broadcast Awards.
The Aberdeen Press and Journal was named Daily Newspaper of the Year for the third time, while the first Website of the Year award went to BBC Online Scotland.
The awards were announced at a lunchtime ceremony at Glasgow Trades Hall. Full results appear below.
Hundreds of entries in 12 categories had been received. The winners go on to compete against other regional winners in the UK finals in London on June 29.
Alan Bonas, BT Scotland’s head of communications, said: “Since the awards began in 1995, the number of entries we receive each year just keeps on growing.
“The entries have been of a magnificent standard, demonstrating the outstanding quality of Scottish journalism today. We are also delighted to give an online award, which responds to the changing face of journalism.”
Judges were: Neil Wallis, editor of the Sunday People; Rod Liddle, editor of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme; Nigel Dacre, editor of ITV News; Michael Calvin, chief sports feature writer on the Mail on Sunday; Paul Bennett, picture editor of the Sunday Mirror; Jonathan Grun, editor of PA News; Jim Anderson, feature writer with the Sunday Telegraph; David Felton, The Independent’s Online editor; Kerry Marcus, senior home news editor with Channel 4; and former ITN newsreader Tim Brinton.
