Budding journalists given chance to see their work published in the Herald

Budding journalists are being given the chance to see their work published in the Sunday Herald.

The Glasgow-based newspaper has teamed up with Amnesty International, and is looking for articles on the subject of asylum – with the best published in the paper during Refugee Week, which runs from June 18 to 24.

Organisers say the issue of asylum has become deeply politicised, with widespread myths and misrepresentations of refugees and asylum seekers, so they are looking for balanced and accurate in-depth articles that “bring clarity to the increasingly confused debate”.

The competition is open to students currently studying in Scotland.

The winner will be presented with the Student Award at the Scottish Refugee Week Media Awards as well as having their work published in the Sunday Herald.

Entrants must submit their articles, of between 1,500 and 2,000 words, by April 30.

The judging panel will include Sunday Herald deputy editor David Milne and John Watson, programme director for Amnesty International in Scotland.
