The Transco North East Press Awards is celebrating its 20th year with a presentation night and dinner on May 12.

The 25 awards are open to all journalists working in the north-east.

The entries are in and the judging is complete – but the results are being kept secret until the big night at Newcastle Civic Centre.

North East Press Awards Committee chair Bernice Saltzer said: “Instead of our usual format we are making it more of a party event and have invited back previous guest speakers.”

The impressive list of past-speakers at the biggest regional awards ceremony in the country includes Kate Adie, The Prime Minister, Derek Jameson, Peter Mandelson, David Jenkins, the former Bishop of Durham, and a whole host of others – so the guest list could be quite impressive.

Tickets for the event are £30 to journalists, £40 for corporate guests and are available via e-mail or on 07977 860183.
