The Evening Star, Ipswich and The Argus in Brighton are among those celebrating after picking up awards at the last of this year’s BT Media Award regional finals.

A host of journalists, photographers and broadcasters from the South East and Eastern region gathered at Tate Modern in London to find out who had scooped each of the 13 prestigious awards.

The Evening Star, Ipswich, edited by Nigel Pickover, scooped the Daily Newspaper of the Year title for the region, and also collected the Website Publication of the Year award.

The Watford Observer won the Weekly Newspaper of the Year category, beating competition from last year’s national award winner, the South London Press.

There were also top prizes for staff from The Argus, which scooped three overall awards, the Southend Evening Echo, News Shopper, Croydon Guardian, and Wanstead and Woodford Guardian.
