Advertiser honoured for Games coverage

The Swindon Advertiser has been honoured for its part in promoting this year’s UK Corporate Games, which bring together the worlds of sport and business.

For the first time in the history of the games, organisers decided to award the paper a special award for Outstanding Print Media Coverage.

The award was presented to Advertiser reporter Kevin Burchall by Dr Maureen Johnston, president and founder of the Corporate Games, at a special ceremony at the World Corporate Games headquarters in Castor, Peterborough.

Felicity Croft, from the Worldwide Corporate Games Community, said: “The Swindon Advertiser has provided news coverage of outstanding depth and quality.

“The paper has contributed to a marked degree to the success of the UK Corporate Games Swindon 2006.

“In so doing it has been named as the recipient of the award of recognition for outstanding printed media.”

Dr Johnston added: “The Swindon Advertiser exceeded all other newspapers and magazines in the coverage of the UK Corporate Games in the history of the games in the United Kingdom.

“The paper captured the spirit and joy of the games and its coverage enhanced Swindon as a centre for events like this and is to be congratulated on the extent, accuracy, and quality of its reporting.

“For this reason it was decided to make the award this year.”

  • The UK Corporate Games was this year officially opened by Princess Anne. A total of 150 teams, made up of 6,200 competitors took part in the 21 sports, ranging from football to hockey and dragon boat racing to squash.
