Legendary editor to receive lifetime award

A legendary editor is set to be honoured with a special award later this year.

Sir Harry Evans, who was editor of The Northern Echo in the 1960s before moving to lead the Sunday Times, will be presented with a lifetime award at the Media Society’s annual dinner.

He will be presented with the award by Lionel Barber, editor of the FT, at the event on 23 October at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair, London.

Sir Harry was one of the founders of the Media Society, which is celebrating its 40th year and brings together professionals working in all parts of the media, including journalism, PR, law and digital.

Media professionals past and present will pay tribute at the event to Sir Harry, who is now working as editor-at-large for global news agency Thomson Reuters, despite being in his 80s.
