Reporters refused remote access to court in sudden policy change

A reporter has criticised court bosses’ commitment to open justice in a row over remote access to hearings.

Sophie Corcoran has hit out at Sheffield Crown Court after she was unable to log in to the Cloud Video Platform, the service used to allow journalists to cover cases remotely.

Sophie, who works for Yorkshire Live, was instead told she needed to notify court staff in advance of her intention to use the CVP.

HTFP understands reporters from the Sheffield Star have also encountered the same problem.

The issue caused Sophie, pictured, to vent her anger on X.

She wrote: “Why on earth has Sheffield Crown Court changed their CVP access policy without notifying anyone?

“Trying to log onto a case, couldn’t get onto the link, called up and was told I now need to notify the courts.

“This hasn’t happened over the last two years but no one said? Open justice is going great, thanks for asking.”

The Star has declined to comment.
