A specialist team of investigative journalists are to have their work published in a Sunday print title as part of a new collaboration.
Newsquest’s pro-independence Scottish daily The National is teaming up with investigative website The Ferret for a series of features entitled Solutions for Scotland.
The collaboration will see The Ferret’s reports published on The National’s website, in its Sunday National print edition and its Seven Days broadsheet supplement.
Managing editor Stewart Ward said the link-up would “provide a platform that really does justice to The Ferret’s fantastic journalism, playing to the strengths of each medium.”
Writing in The National’s weekly newsletter, he said: “There’s an epidemic of talking Scotland down. Call it the Scottish Cringe or call it a desperate attempt to maintain the Union. We’ve all seen it.
“At The National, we make a point of shouting out Scottish success stories. But there’s a balance to be struck.
“Because we’re a newspaper that is interested in seeing a thriving, independent Scotland, this is also a space that’s ideal for those debates about what changes we can make.
“And that’s what this series will do. Solutions For Scotland identifies areas where Scotland needs to see a shift and presents tangible ways that can happen.”
Stewart told HTFP: “The Ferret’s top team of reporters are digging into a major topic each month with news stories, a big read, infographics and more, which we’re producing in print for the Sunday National and publishing on our website.
“We’ve seen fantastic growth this year in our newsletter subscriptions – so it’s clear our readers really appreciate updates direct to their inbox too.
“With that in mind, to make sure that none of the offering is missed out on, we’ve launched an accompanying newsletter that directs readers to the different articles in the series and also provides an extract in the newsletter itself. It goes out at Sundays on 11am.
“So we’re utilising our website, newsletters, the Sunday National print edition and our Seven Days broadsheet pull-out to provide a platform that really does justice to The Ferret’s fantastic journalism, playing to the strengths of each medium.”
