Weekly’s cartoonist lands on ‘Fleet Street’ as paper keeps up Monopoly tradition

A weekly newspaper has continued a regional press tradition by landing the ‘Fleet Street’ space on its patch’s Monopoly board – complete with a drawing by its cartoonist.

The Lancaster Guardian has landed the coveted square on the Lancaster edition of the classic board game, which was officially launched yesterday.

The Guardian’s space comes complete with a cartoon image of a journalist, pictured, created by the paper’s weekly cartoonist Jack Knight.

Other regional titles to be placed on ‘Fleet Street’ in recent years include the MK News, Wolverhampton Express & Star, Kentish Gazette, Hull Daily Mail, Stratford Herald, Colchester Daily Gazette and Southern Daily Echo.

Guardian editor Debbie Butler said: “It’s great for us to have a place on this special board devoted to Lancaster. We’re also thrilled that our city has its own version of such an iconic game.”

In all, more than 30 Lancaster landmarks are being honoured on the board including the landmark Ashton Memorial and its historic castle.
