Weekly puts home of three decades up for sale

A weekly newspaper is set to move from its home of more than three decades after putting the office up for sale.

The Isle of Wight County Press has put its headquarters at 123 Pyle Street, in the island’s capital of Newport, on the market for a guide price of £750,000.

The three-storey office building, pictured, was built in the early 1990s.

In making the move, the Newsquest-owned IWCP said its staff “don’t need as much space as we used to”.

In a joint statement, co-editors Lori Little and Lucy Morgan said: “This could be about to mark the next exciting chapter in the Isle of Wight County Press’s long history.

“We were originally based on Newport High Street, and you can still see the words ‘County Press’ spelled out in old tiles on the front of our former home there.

“When the paper moved to the bespoke current building, in 1992, we had very different needs.

“These days, news has changed and it has become digital first.

“The countypress.co.uk site is the island’s leading news website by some margin (data by Similar Web) and the fact is that we can do our jobs with a smart phone and a laptop. We don’t need as much space as we used to.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to ensure our town centre building is put to good use – taken on by a company that can make the most of its potential.”
