Weekly marks 25 years since terror attack with video documentary

A weekly newspaper has produced a video documentary marking 25 years since a terror attack that claimed 31 lives.

The Ulster Herald’s documentary looked at the Omagh bombing, which took place on 15 August 1998.

Hundreds of people were injured in the blast, for which the Real IRA claimed responsibility.

The Omagh-based Herald also paid tribute to the victims with a special edition earlier this month, pictured.

Editor Nigel McDonagh told HTFP: “The bomb was the worst single atrocity of the Troubles, claiming 31 lives and injuring hundreds of people.

“As a local newspaper in the town, we felt it was important to mark this milestone anniversary with a comprehensive supplement in print.

“Also, the interviews were filmed and from this we made a feature documentary.

“The feedback we have been getting has been very positive, and we are happy with how it has turned out.

“I suppose it’s just a good example of a traditional print media adapting to present stories for a modern audience.

“We do a lot of broadcast material now, but this was our biggest project to date, and I’m very pleased with how the team approached this important subject.”
