Stone the crows! Journalist attacked while investigating aggressive bird

A journalist fell victim to a crow while investigating a spate of attacks by the bird against women on her patch.

Camden New Journal assistant editor Anna Lamche was “dive-bombed” by the crow, which has been swooping on women in the Gospel Oak area of London.

Anna was caught on camera being attacked in what has been described by her New Journal colleague Frankie Lister-Fell, who originally investigated the issue after victims of the carrion crow came forward, as a “Hitchcockian nightmare”.

A report by Frankie about Anna’s experience added that “the crow appeared within seconds and whacked her head” as she walked down Mansfield Road, in Gospel Oak.

Stills taken from Frankie’s video of the attack on Anna appeared on the front page of the newspaper on Thursday.

It is understood the attacks may be occurring because the crow mistakenly believes that people with long hair could be a threat to the young in its nest.

Its victims have been left with scabs, scratches and headaches following their encounters.

Anna told HTFP: “All I will say is that in a media environment where jobs are increasingly desk-based, I feel very lucky that we are able to get out into the world and do on-the-ground reporting for all of our stories.”

Added Frankie: “After receiving many calls from people with long hair who were ‘attacked’ by the now infamous crow of Mansfield Road, we decided to see if the crow would go for Anna (who has long hair).

“And within seconds upon arriving we saw the bird cawing loudly from a branch before swooping onto her head, twice. It then swooped on another woman who was protecting her head with a jumper.

“I’m grateful to work at a paper that gives you time and space to develop original stories, even on silly ones like this, rather than scrambling to hit a daily quota of online uploads from behind a screen.”
