Reporter seeks new role after covering last football match for daily

Ollie KingA journalist has left a regional daily after covering a football club’s promotion-winning season.

Ollie King has announced his departure from the Nottingham Post, where he covered Notts County, and is now seeking a new job.

Ollie’s departure comes amid a series of cuts by Post publisher Reach that have seen football writers covering AFC Bournemouth and Southampton FC also leave the company.

Asked whether Ollie would be replaced, Reach told HTFP that the Post continued to employ a dedicated Notts County reporter. However the company has been unable to say who that is.

Ollie covered the club’s successful National League season in which they regained league status following promotion via the play-offs.

Posting on Twitter, he wrote: “Unfortunately, the National League play-off final was my final game covering this wonderful football club after the most special of seasons.

“Walking into the job with big shoes to fill was a daunting task, but you supporters made me feel welcome and at ease and I really appreciate all your support and engagement throughout the season. It really does mean a lot.

“For me, the job search begins again and I would love to continue to cover Notts so if there are any paid opportunities around, please let me know.”
