Regional title left without dedicated editor after restructure

Jon LewisA regional news website has been left without a dedicated editor after the incumbent took on a new role with its publisher.

Jon Lewis, pictured, has left his role editing Reach plc title Dorset Live to become executive editor at its sister sites Cornwall Live, Devon Live and Plymouth Live.

Jon’s move comes after HTFP reported in March that he was one of seven editorial staff working across Dorset Live and Wiltshire Live at risk of redundancy as part of wider cuts by Reach.

Following the changes, senior reporter Mike Taylor confirmed on Twitter he is now the de facto “editor” of the Dorset site, though without the title.

Mike now reports to engagement editor Emma Flanagan, who is also responsible for overseeing Bristol Live, Gloucestershire Live, Somerset Live and Wiltshire Live.

In turn, Emma reports to Pete Gavan, Reach’s senior editor in Bristol.

Jon, who took up his new role in May, is now on a different reporting line overseen by Devon senior editor Emma Slee.

The changes came after Reach announced in March it was seeking 192 editorial redundancies, with 426 staff being placed under threat of redundancy as a result.

Sports journalist Daniel Davis, who worked for Dorset Live as its AFC Bournemouth correspondent, was among those to leave the company as a result, despite the club retaining its Premier League status.
