Regional journalists to face national competition at digital awards

Harriet Clugston 1Regional journalists and publishers are set to compete for a series of awards honouring digital work.

The Association of Online Publishers has released the shortlist for the 2023 Digital Publishing Awards, which features a specific Award for Inspiring Local Journalism.

Notts TV local democracy reporters Anna Whittaker and Andrew Topping both appear on the shortlist, alongside Katy Rink, of My Shrewsbury Magazine, Zak Garner-Purkis, of MyLondon, and National World’s Claire Wilde.

Elsewhere, National World’s Harriet Clugston, pictured, will face national competition for the overall Journalist of the Year award, while her colleague Imogen Howse will be hoping to win the Rising Star category.

There are also nominations for Reach plc, with its central editorial team and nationals team both being shortlisted for Audience Development Team of the Year.

Reach’s Online Safety For Journalists scheme is also up for Best Publisher-led Social Good Initiative or Campaign.

The winners will be announced at the AOP Awards ceremony on 14 June at Old Billingsgate, London.
