OAP fundraiser guest edits daily as part of hospice bid

An octogenarian fundraiser guest edited a regional daily as part of his drive to raise cash for charity.

Malcolm Metcalf was invited to undertake the post for a day at the Eastern Daily Press as part of his drive to complete ’90 new things before he turns 90′.

Mr Metcalf, who turns 90 in December, is undertaking the challenge for the construction of Norwich’s new Priscilla Bacon Hospice, a cause for which he has already raised tens of thousands of pounds to date.

Other activities he has undertaken include riding a horse, while he will also take a trip on a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

During his time at the Norwich-based EDP, Mr Metcalf attended crucial meetings and met editor Richard Porritt, pictured with him.

He also made a TikTok video, visited the newspaper’s archives and found the front page from his birth date in 1933 and had a tour of its Prospect House headquarters.

Discussing why he is undertaking the challenge, Mr Metcalf told the EDP: “This hospice is desperately needed for the area.

“I really want to play my part in helping to raise the final amount to complete the project as soon as possible.”
