New role created as daily invests in science and technology coverage

James Mitchinson 2A regional daily is investing in its science and technology coverage – creating a new job in the process.

The Yorkshire Post has announced the creation of a science and technology editor role after receiving a “significant investment” from software company WANdisco.

The Leeds-based Post is aiming to recruit “someone with a passion for technology and a flair for storytelling” who “lives and breathes technology”.

The job is being advertised on HTFP and can be viewed here.

Post editor James Mitchinson, pictured, posted on Twitter: “If regional titles like this one are to prevail against the unrelenting pressures facing the industry, we must make ourselves unmissable authorities on a number of specialist topics, producing quality content that people will pay for.”

The role’s creation has also been welcomed by Brian Ferguson, arts correspondent at the Post’s National World sister daily The Scotsman.

Brian wrote: “I’ve been forever rattling on – for years – about how there is a huge gap for this kind of specialist journalism.

“Would love to see it happen in Scotland given all the work that is going on across the country. Great to see it happening now at the Yorkshire Post.”
