Local title auctions obscure football shirts to raise cash for homeless

Tom Canning 2022A regional sports news website is raising money for a charity on its patch by auctioning lesser-known football shirts.

Football in Berkshire will hold the silent auction of shirts as part of its annual Berkshire Football Awards event.

Clubs from the county to have donated to the drive so far include FA Vase winners Ascot United, as well as Holyport, Maidenhead United, Berks County, Newbury and Caversham United.

Shirts worn by the Micronesia national team are also up for auction. Proceeds will go to Reading-based homeless charity Launchpad.

Reach plc’s YouTube editor Tom Canning co-founded the title independently of his main role in 2016.

Tom, pictured, told HTFP: “It’s an opportunity to own a properly niche football shirt. Most of these teams don’t sell replica shirts so it is very much a one-off opportunity.

“Several clubs have donated shirts free of charge but where needed we’ll make sure any team’s costs are covered. Some of these shirts will be signed, some retro, some brand new etc.

“We have FA Vase Final shirts from Ascot United and Binfield, we have a spectacular Windsor Union Jack shirt, a retro Newbury shirt and home and away tops from Maidenhead United and all four Micronesian futsal shirts which come from author Paul Watson who we recently did a podcast with.”

Details of how to bid will be given in the site’s email newsletter, which can be subscribed to here.
