King sends greeetings for press club’s 140th birthday

King Charles has sent congratulations to a city press club as it marked its 140th anniversary.

Nearly 100 guests attended a glittering luncheon to celebrate Liverpool Press Club’s milestone.

The event was held at The Holiday Inn, Lime Street, Liverpool, just a few hundred yards from the club’s original headquarters when it launched at the Stork Hotel in 1883.

Photographer Ray Farley was welcomed as the club’s new president and the guest speaker was distinguished Merseyside lawyer, Anthony Nelson.

In his letter, The King sent his “heartfelt congratulations on the milestone” to the club and warmest good wishes to all attendees.

Compere Ken Bennett, North West chair of the Society of Editors, praised Paul Ellis, Tracey Owen and Liz Hull for their “Trojan efforts” in organising press club events during Covid.

Said Ken: “They really proved the press club’s flame still burns and now we are looking forward to ensuring the club takes its place at the heart of the Merseyside media community.”
