Journalists’ muddy charity challenge raises hundreds of pounds

Two journalists who completed a muddy charity challenge have raised hundreds of pounds for two good causes.

Katie Green and Marta Tavares, who are trainee reporters at the Grantham Journal and Newark Advertiser respectively, undertook the Tough Mudder challenge last month in aid of charities relevant to their patches.

Between them, they raised £250 which will now be split between BHive Community Hub, which is run by the South Lincolnshire Blind Society, and Newark Dementia Carers.

The challenge saw the pair follow a course through mud and over obstacles at Belvoir Castle, in Leicestershire.

Speaking to the Journal, Katie said she was “delighted” she could raise the money.

She added: “I am able through my job to cover a lot of what BHive does for the community and I am so happy I was able to raise this money to help them myself.”

Susan Swinburn, chie executive of South Lincolnshire Blind Society, said: “We are tremendously honoured that Katie thought about us and what we are doing in the community.

“This will make a difference to local people. It makes sure there is a safe place for people in town and they have a confidential place.”
