Former journalist becomes mayor of home town

A former regional journalist has been elected mayor of the town she served.

Lynne Mortimer, who worked for both the Easter Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star, has become the new Mayor of Ipswich.

Lynne, pictured, was elected to Ipswich Borough Council last year, having retired from the EADT and Star in 2019.

She serves as a Labour councillor, representing Gainsborough ward.

Lynne was made mayor at an historic ceremony at Ipswich’s Corn Exchange.

She told the Star that becoming mayor of her home town was “the greatest honour of her life”.

Her mayoral charities are Brave Futures, which supports children who have suffered abuse, and Inspire Suffolk, which helps young people to reach their greatest potential.
