Editor’s Elvis tribute night raises more than £1,600 for charity

An editor’s Elvis Presley tribute night raised more than £1,600 for charities working to eliminate the disease he is recovering from.

HTFP reported last month how Ken Bird, who edits Somerset-based news website Around Wellington, had organised the event with his wife Jeanette after undergoing two cancer operations in the past 10 months.

Ken had both his prostate and one-third of his right lung removed after being diagnosed last summer following a routine blood test.

The night, held at Wellington Football Club on Saturday (27), raised funds for Stand Up To Cancer and Cancer Research UK and featured Elvis tribute Stuart Horne.

Ken said: “It really was a great night.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has made it such a success including the 90-plus people who came along plus everyone who gave raffle prizes or has donated via the Giving page.”

Donations are still being welcomed to the charities here.
