Daily produces special as football club bids for first trophy in decades

A regional daily has produced a special souvenir for football fans on its patch as their team vie to win their first trophy in decades.

Newcastle daily The Chronicle has produced a supplement marking Newcastle United’s forthcoming appearance in the League Cup final against Manchester United.

The two clubs will face off at London’s Wembley Stadium on 26 February.

Newcastle, whose fans are known as the Toon Army, have not won a major domestic trophy since triumphing in the FA Cup in 1955. The supplement, pictured, is on sale now with a cover price of £3.

Chronicle editor Sophie Barley told HTFP: “We are hugely proud of this souvenir supplement for Newcastle United fans to mark the cup final.

“It’s an exciting time to be a Newcastle fan and you will struggle to find a more loyal and passionate fanbase than the Toon Army.

“The supplement includes exclusive interviews, the cup story so far and some nostalgia of years gone by as well as plenty of pictures.

“The city is absolutely buzzing ahead of the final and The Chronicle is right behind the team – hopefully the lads can bring the cup home with them.”
