Chanel superstars welcomed with open arms as daily runs special edition

Fashion icon Chanel descended on Manchester last week and was granted superstar coverage by the city’s daily team of reporters.

With the city’s Northern Quarter transformed into a classy catwalk fit for Paris or Milan, the Manchester Evening News provided live web coverage as well as a special edition with seven pages of pictures and reaction.

The reporting team of Lifestyle Editor Dianne Bourne, plus James Holt, Jenna Campbell, Maisie Lawton and Caitlin Griffin all supplied online content from the event on Thursday evening which was back in the city for the first time in 15 years.

The MEN ran with a full-page poster front showing the sheer size of the street-style-catwalk which was protected by a specially-built shelter.

They wrote: “Mancunians have spent the last two weeks watching the Northern Quarter transform before their eyes, as a huge canopy slowly emerged from the ground up and a mural appeared on the corner of Thomas Street and High Street.

“Tonight, it all came together as the Métiers d’Art show, which translates as “Master of arts” finally commenced.

“Chanel’s takeover of the trendy and alternative Northern Quarter was never going to be a quiet, behind-the-scenes affair – Manchester simply wouldn’t allow it.

“In fact, the luxury fashion brand was welcomed in the most Mancunian way possible – with a downpour. But naturally, adverse weather conditions didn’t stop both A-list stars and crowds from turning out as Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show wowed the city, completely transforming the historic Thomas Street and the district around it.

“While it was over in a flash – 15 minutes to be precise – it was a poignant nod to Manchester’s rich, cultural history.

“Soundtracked by the fashion world’s Michel Gaubert, a symphony of rock and electronica flooded the catwalk, with references to Factory Records, with New Order’s Bizarre Love Triangle and Gloria Jones’ ‘Tainted Love’ reminding the guests of Manchester’s wonderful music heritage.”
