A BBC reporter has won Regional Journalist of the Year at this year’s Asian Media Awards.

Pritti Mistry, who works for the BBC in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, took home the prize after the annual ceremony on Friday night.

Pritti, pictured, had faced competition from fellow nominees including local democracy reporter Gurdip Thandi, who covers Walsall for the Birmingham Mail and its Birmingham Live sister website.

The Mail was also a finalist in the Creative Media Award for its Brummie Muslims email newsletter.

However, that category was won by ‘#BeVisible: See the Ability, Not the Difference’.

The Asian Standard was named Best Publication 2022.

The ceremony was held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate, where the inaugural awards took place in 2013.
