Regional journalist turned Coronation Street producer dies aged 101

Derek GrangerA regional journalist who went on to produce television programmes including Coronation Street and Brideshead Revisited has died aged 101.

Tributes have been paid to Derek Granger, who worked for Brighton daily The Argus and the Sussex Daily News before being headhunted by the Financial Times to be its first drama critic in 1952.

Derek, pictured, went on to work for Granada TV, producing Coronation Street and later becoming the channel’s head of drama.

In 1982, he made the move into film production, working on films including A Handful Of Dust and Where Angels Fear To Tread.

In a statement, ITV said: “With great sadness the production team at Coronation Street and ITV Studios would like to send heartfelt condolences to Derek’s family and friends.”

Derek entered a civil partnership with interior designer Kenneth Partridge in 2006. The couple were togerhter from 1949 until Mr Partridge’s death in 2015.
