Photojournalist dies aged 50 after being struck by train

Jon SeymourA journalist and photographer whose work was “a real labour of love” has died aged 50 after being struck by a train.

Tributes have been paid to Jon Seymour, who provided news and events coverage for the Lynn News.

Jon, pictured, was best known for reporting on and photographing many of King’s Lynn’s major musical events.

He also covered other news items including exam results and King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Pride for the paper.

An inquest opened on Thursday, stating the cause of Jon’s death was being struck by a train in King’s Lynn on Tuesday, September 6. He sustained a traumatic head injury.

Emergency services attended and Jon was pronounced dead at the scene. The inquest was adjourned until Friday, March, 17, 2023.

Former editor Mark Leslie told the News: “I am so sad to hear of the death of Jon Seymour, and at such a young age too.

“He was always unfailingly polite and enthusiastic when asked to cover jobs for us.

“He did a great job covering both the Battle of the Bands and Festival Too over the years, providing both words and pictures for us.

“I think it was a real labour of love for him as he loved his rock music.”

Festival Too, a music festival that Jon helped to organise, has also paid tribute.

In a statement, organisers said: “We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of our friend and festival photographer,

“Jon went above and beyond supporting us, from photographing our events, helping us with fundraising and even helping with the stage builds.

“He was a huge talent who will be missed by us, and the local music scene of which he was an enormous supporter.

“Our love goes to Jon’s family and friends.”

Instead of a funeral, a music festival called JonFest is set to be held on 9 October to raise money for mental health charities.
