Journalists unite to help those struggling with fuel price increases

Journalists have united to help those struggling with domestic fuel price increases in a regional publisher’s new campaign.

JPIMedia has announced the launch of its Heat & Eat initiative, which will offer readers advice on how to heat homes more efficiently.

Journalists across the company to put pressure on decision-makers, with the costs of gas and electricity are expected to increase by up to 50pc from an average £1,200 per year to £1,800.

JPI’s core content team led by Chris Page will be creating central content to be shared across titles, which the publisher says will complement work reporting teams are doing in their own communities on the issue.

JPI deputy editor in chief Gary Shipton said: “No-one should have to choose between heating or eating and our campaign is demanding politicians come together to find a fair way of mitigating the overwhelming threat to so many families.

“Our campaign looks at the reasons for the huge hike in prices, the various options currently being put forward by politicians of all parties, and the severe impact on families living in each of our communities.

“Local newspapers and their websites are here to stand up for local people and we will do so in the best traditions of our profession.”
