Council shares fears about ‘dangerous’ former newspaper office

Fears have been shared of the state of a “dangerous” former newspaper office that is “falling down”.

Dorchester Town Council will warn Dorset Council of their concerns about an old district office of the Dorset Echo in the town.

The building, off Bowling Alley Walk, was recently the subject of a redevelopment application for a new development on the site.

However, Dorset Council rejected on the grounds it would not be in keeping with the character of the town’s conservation area.

The matter of the former office’s future has now been raised again at a meeting of the town council’s planning and environment committee, according to Dorset Live.

Councillor Molly Rennie told the committee: “It’s completely falling down and is my opinion it is very dangerous.”

The state of the building, which now has no a roof, was raised during a discussion on an application for the adjacent property to be converted from two flats into a three-bed family home.

Committee chairman Cllr Robin Potter told the meeting the will write to Dorset Council to warn the authority the building “might warrant attention.”
