A former paper boy has stepped up to run a regional daily’s football coverage.

Tom Sandells has been unveiled as the new Preston North End reporter at the Lancashire Post, where he has worked for almost three years.

Tom, pictured, takes on the role following the departure of his predecessor Dave Seddon after 13 years in the post with the Preston-based daily.

He has worked at the Post and its National World sister titles in Lancashire since October 2019, primarily helping Dave to cover North End.

Tom, who trained at the University of Central Lancashire, has also reported on Fleetwood Town as part of his most recent role as a digital sports journalist.

He announced his promotion in a Twitter post on Monday.

Tom wrote: “Delighted to be stepping up at the Post to be the main PNE writer as of today.

“From delivering the paper as a teenager, to be given the chance to take over the coverage of my team is something I’m really excited about.”
