Wales Media Awards to broadcast ceremony free online

Lucy OwenJournalists in Wales are being invited to attend a free virtual journalism awards ceremony next month.

The winners of the 2020 Journalists’ Charity Wales Media Awards, delayed due to the coroanvirus pandemic, will finally be revealed at the online ceremony.

Twenty different category winners will be revealed, along with the winner of the coveted Journalist of the Year title and the Outstanding Contribution Award.

The event will be hosted by BBC Cymru Wales presenter Lucy Owen, pictured, and ITV Cymru Wales’ Jonathan Hill.

The event is run in support of the Journalists’ Charity, whose chair in Wales Tim Rogers said: “I very much hope that as many colleagues as possible – not just those who are shortlisted for an Award – will watch the programme and contribute generously between now and the broadcast on 30 April.

“After this very difficult Covid year there are many journalists and colleagues who need our support more than ever.

“You can never know whether it will be yourself or a close colleague who might fall on hard times in the future, but what you can be certain of is that the Journalists’ Charity will be there to offer support.”

The event will be broadcast at 7.30pm on Friday 30 April on the WMA website, which can be found here.
