A newsdesk chief is leaving his role at two sister weeklies to take a reporting job with a regional daily.
Ryan Evans, head of news at the Basingstoke Gazette and Andover Advertiser, is set to join the Swindon Advertiser as court and crime reporter in the New Year.
Ryan, pictured, previously served as chief reporter at the Gazette before being promoted in October.
The 23-year-old announced the move to the Advertiser, the titles’ Newsquest sister daily, in a series of Twitter posts.
Speaking to HTFP, he said: “I feel I’ve achieved a lot in Basingstoke despite being very young and the youngest person to lead the news team.
“I’m really proud of it and the opportunity to have my own beat at a daily newspaper is great. It’s an opportunity I’m really excited for.”
Posting on Twitter, Ryan added: “In my time I’ve led our campaign to return Basingstoke Town FC to the town, held our council to account and built up many great relationships across our region.
“Thank you to everyone for making me so welcome, and a massive thank you to all of my fantastic colleagues over the years. I’ll miss it greatly but can’t wait for the next exciting challenge.”
